Safer ways to get rid of Cockroaches

How can I get rid of cockroaches without using toxic surface sprays and bombs?

Cockroaches..... they are so prolific and just love this humidity. Each female roach can lay more than 10,000 eggs in a lifetime. We’ve all heard the story that cockroaches are so resilient they would most likely survive a nuclear war. To control cockies you need to control their access to food, water and shelter. Forget about using toxic insecticides as this is only ever a short term measure and the health risk to humans is high.

Cockroaches are clever, they will evacuate a treated area, only to return later more resistant and cocky than before.

What to do?

• Limit their access to food by storing food and organic waste in well sealed containers. Vacuum up food crumbs, sucking up egg cases as you go.

• Seal vents, windows and cracks – they can hide in cracks as small as 1.5mm wide.

• Deal with dripping taps and leaking pipes. Don’t let water pool in pot plant trays.

Safer Alternatives to conventional insecticides:

• Boric Acid (a naturally occurring mineral powder) sprinkled in a very thin film under the stove, fridge and cupboards and in cracks and crevices;

• Sticky Traps – will only help with small infestations but will help locate main problem areas;

• Chemical Free plug-in devices – operate by creating a pulse in the existing frequency of your home, annoying pests enough to make them want to move next door. Do your research and be wary of cheap, imported devices
