Is Fluoride making you sick?

Mr Administrator - what have you done?

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council were kind enough to give the community two whole weeks' notice of the date of commencement for water fluoridation.  The council website now has a special page, dedicated to fluoridation:

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council says Yes to a community poll on anything BUT water fluoridation

Local members of Fluoride Action Network Australia are disappointed by Neil Porter’s refusal to consider conducting a community poll on water fluoridation despite his earlier support for the idea.

Solar Panels - So What?

So your house is covered in solar panels but when the sun goes down, you still have to purchase power from the mains and if the power is cut, you lose all your power along with everyone else in the street. That’s because your system is connected “back to the grid”. If you’re on a “Gross Meter”, you are constantly drawing on mains power anyway because all of the power your solar system is generating goes back to the grid.

What will you do when the Grid goes down?

Americans are being warned through television commercials, major news networks and talk-back radio about the dangers of solar storms. The warnings are being instigated by NASA scientists who believe that massive solar flares generated by solar storms could cause, “An avalanche of blackouts carried across continents by long-distance power lines (that) could last for weeks to months..”

Heavy Metal Tests show Celebrities are Toxic Too

Today Tonight Adelaide aired a story on heavy metal toxicity on Monday night. They got 10 people, including some local celebrities and a couple of tradesmen to test their urine for toxic metals using the Total Care Heavy Metal Screen Tests distributed by Gwarehouse.

Sucked in by Labels

Would you buy mouthwash if it gave you bad breath and stained your teeth? Antiwrinkle cream if it made you look older? Shampoo if it made your hair so weak it started to fall out? Cleaning products that polluted your home? Sunscreen if it made you more susceptible to skin cancer?

You’d feel pretty stupid if you did! I know did:< But I didn’t start to feel stupid until I began to question the claims made on labels of the many of the products I was using on an everyday basis, starting with toothpastes and mouthwashes. After all, dentistry is my area of expertise.

What's on your Floor?

I tried one of those DIY steam cleaning mops over the weekend. Wow, were my carpets dirty! In fact, I was so disgusted by my efforts that I wanted to pull them up immediately. But if I did that, I’d just be exposing cold, grey concrete, not old timber floor boards, which I could live with.

So, considering health and hygiene as well as environmental issues, what’s the best type of flooring to live with?

Flood clean-up goes mouldy

Listening to a medical practitioner (the AMA Qld president no less) giving advice to QLD’s flood victims on the news at the peak of the QLD floods made me shake my head in dismay. He provided such illuminating instructions, including:

  • Keep out of the water – it’s dirty (most people were already in it);
  • Cover wounds with water-proof bandaids (but they got washed away);
  • Use a cup of bleach in a bucket of water (tap water or flood water?) to clean walls and furniture and prevent/kill mould).
